My journey into IT began in 2004, when I started training in SQL Server and learning database programming. What began as a technical career soon developed into something else I have always enjoyed: teaching people how technology works and, more importantly, how to use it for themselves.

I began offering one-day Joomla training courses, teaching students at local libraries in Bromley and London’s Victoria. Over the years, I trained more than 100 students, and simultaneously completing, then passing the CiPD course in Training Practice.

My career continued to develop within database programming and enterprise technology. I have worked extensively with Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Azure and Microsoft SharePoint, and was the point person responsible for the COINS database for the British Government on behalf of the Department for Transport.

I also designed and built a Windows Phone application for the UK’s largest housing association. The application was created for surveyors across the UK to collect both numerical and qualitative information about housing stock. Its unique design and capabilities were significant enough that the company ultimately sold the technology in 2016 for £1.3 million.

After years working in technology and database programming, I have now returned to my original passion: teaching.

That passion is the reason I created The WordPress Weekender.

The idea is simple: rather than paying a designer every time you need to make a change to your website, I teach you how to build and manage your own.
